Intel has recently revealed that its Arc GPUs are plagued by new vulnerabilities. The company has shed light on two specific vulnerabilities affecting the Arc A770 and Arc A750, which are popular graphics cards in the Alchemist lineup. However, it’s important to note that these vulnerabilities only affect GPUs purchased between October and December 2022, so the scale of the issue is relatively smaller compared to previous vulnerabilities like “Downfall” that affected thousands of CPUs.
Both vulnerabilities result in a denial of service (DoS) consequence. The first vulnerability, labeled as “CVE-2022-41984,” can be exploited through local access and can cause disruptions in GPU performance. Intel has given this vulnerability a base score of “4.4 Medium,” indicating its significance.
The second vulnerability, known as “CVE-2022-38973,” can potentially lead to information leakage due to improper access control. This vulnerability has a lower base score of “3.3 Low,” suggesting that its impact may be less severe.
If you are an Arc GPU user who purchased your GPU within the specified timeframe, Intel advises reaching out to their product support in your region. While the company has yet to release a fix for these vulnerabilities, it is recommended to report the issue to Intel for further assistance.
It is important to stay informed about any developments regarding the vulnerabilities and their fixes. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as they become available.
