NEW DELHI, Oct 13 (Reuters) – India is rolling again its earlier plan to impose restrictions on laptop computer imports, months after abruptly asserting such plans which got here underneath criticism from trade and Washington.
“India won’t impose restrictions on laptop computer imports,” Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal informed a press convention on Friday.
He stated the federal government “solely desires importers to be on shut watch.”
The import licensing regime, introduced on Aug. 3, aimed to “guarantee trusted {hardware} and methods” enter India, but it surely was delayed by three months after objections from trade and criticism by Washington. It will have an effect on firms like Dell (DELL.N), HP (HPE.N), Apple (AAPL.O), Samsung (005930.KS) and Lenovo (0992.HK).
