Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra panned for ultra-wide design that kills all hopes of one-handed use

Veteran tipster Ice Universe claims to learn more about the Galaxy S24 Ultra by the day, little of which the tech world’s favorite cat-themed leaks account seems to like. The social media star’s latest bugbear is Samsung’s plans to upgrade the putative flagship’s front panel, which, apparently, takes it all the way back to its Galaxy Note roots – albeit in the worst possible way.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is barely pocketable with top and bottom edges of 78.1 millimeters (mm) in length as it is – however, those of the S24 Ultra are now slated to grow all the way to 79mm. This new dimension, slammed as downright “anti-human” by the leaker, is apparently a function of the switch to a completely flat display in this generation.

Somewhat ironically, Ice Universe likens an S24 Ultra of this magnitude in a case to the “freak” that was the Galaxy Note Edge, a smartphone that turned out over 82mm in width due to the experimental one-sided curve of its screen.

The leaker has also posted new renders taking the new ultra-wide frame and flat screen into account, one of which seems to compare it unfavorably to the iPhone “15 Ultra” (or, possibly, 15 Pro Max). All in all, the S24 Ultra is now painted as a device for those who miss, or have missed out on, all the vibes (and risks) of adopting the very first-gen Galaxy Note.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
